In the mid 1940s, an ex Army doctor, who had served in Burma, decided to return to his native state of Kerala. He chanced upon Perinthalmanna, at that time a quiet village set in the lee of majestic mountains and knew that he had found the home he sought.
Thus, started the story of Ramdas Clinic and Nursing Home.
In 1946, the doctor, Dr. Madampath Sankunni Nair (MS Nair), set up a one room clinic next to his home. Recognizing the scarce medical facilities nearby, he resolved to work tirelessly to provide care and succor where needed, often for free or for a pittance. He did not hesitate to go to the homes of the needy, who could not come to him. For the people of Perinthalmanna, he became a symbol of hope. With the help from his sons, the institution he had started, grew over the years, from the original single room to a 150 bedded multi-specialty hospital. In all these years, the basic creed of the hospital, of care without concern for commerce, never changed.
As we step into the 75th year of existence, the Ramdas Clinic and Nursing home, has grown into a modern hospital. With a mixture of senior and junior doctors, with multiple specialties like Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Pediatrics, ENT, Neurology, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Nephrology and Urology, with newer facilities and more comfortable rooms, the hospital is future ready. This is an ongoing process and more modern facilities are in the pipeline. Through all this, our primary concern, providing quality medical care for the patient irrespective of the caste, creed and financial status has remained and will remain the corner stone of our existence.
